3 out of 5 stars Not up to my expectations   November 13, 2008
Jamie R. Wilson (Brooklyn, New York)
I suspect my disappointment with Mix 1 is a combination of high expectations from my love of Naked Juice and having been introduced to Mix 1 with its mango-flavored version. I'm impressed by all of the healthy goodness packed into each bottle but I didn't get the energy boost I expected nor a quick filler for a missed meal. Someone described it as like drinking yogurt and someone else compared the taste to chalk. Right on both counts. It's thick and a bit bland. Not entirely bad, but I'm glad I drank it heavily chilled. If I decide to give it another try I'll grab a flavor with a little more bang for my taste buds.

4 out of 5 stars Better than most, but not perfect   November 11, 2008
Sebastian Fernandez (Tampa, Florida United States)
I am not the biggest fan of protein drinks, since even though they are "good for you", I do not enjoy their taste. In this case, the experience was much better than others, with the typical weird aftertaste managed to a minimum. However, I found the flavor to be a little on the bland side.

If you are looking for a boost of protein and vitamins that does not take a lot of time to consume, this is still one of the better options out there. I just wish that one day I would come across one of this products and say "Wow! This one tastes great".

3 out of 5 stars Excellent drink, for the right person.   October 18, 2008
Victoria Tarrani (Betwixt FL and CA, USA)
Since it takes glasses and a magnifying glass to be able to read the ingredients, I'm going to do just that. The reason is that someone who decides to drink this may have food allergies or be diabetic: Whey Protein Isolate; Organic Cane Sugar -- these are the first two ingredients, which means the quantity (based on a 2000 calorie day) is significant. Onward: Organic Evaporated Cane Juice - I assume that is sugar cane since it is mentioned right after the sugar cane; then we go into the concentrates that are added Juice concentrates: Apple extract, light pectin, Olive oil (yes, that is correct) Citric Acid and Pectin. Next they add lactic acid, beet juice concentrate for color as well as bete-carotene for color.

If you understood all of those ingredients, then maybe the drink is for you. But if you are lactose intolerant, this is one drink you should skip.

It does list numerous vitamins; the quantity could be misleading because while you think you are getting 35% of your vitamin A for the day, that is only if you base your food ingestion on 2000 calories a day. For a petite woman, 2000 calories will fatten you up; a man can easily burn that many calories just maintaining his muscle structure.

Are there any benefits? Yes. If you can tolerate the ingredients well, then this is a healthy drink that can help you stay stronger and younger longer. Oxidation describes the loss of electrons by a molecule, atom or ion. Reduction describes the gain of electrons by a molecule, atom or ion. Reducing the oxidation slows aging.

I am a care giver for my 84 year old mother; she is very small and if she can't eat for a day, she could easiely drop 2-3 pounds. This drink, which she can tolerate, helps keep the pounds on her for those times when she is unable to swallow.

There are a variety of flavors, but I drank the Mango. The flavor lingered long after the bottle was empty, and that was pleasant. With the available selection, you probably can find one or more that you, or someone you must get food into, to drink.

Definitely try this drink. You will have more energy, it will help your nutrition when a meal is missed. Just know the possible problems.
