Buy THIS book! July 5, 2008 A. Barrella (New York City) As a newly diagnosed Celiac, I can tell you there are many many books out there on the subject.
Buy this one.... find the others at the library and copy the few pages you might need. This book is a "wealth" of info that you can actually use.
An Excellent Resource February 5, 2005 Clare (Seoul Korea (South)) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I thought I had learned all there was to know about celiac disease through the numerous websites devoted to the topic. This book proved me wrong. The information on cross-contamination in particular was very helpful for me and the author gives other reasons why the recovery process may not be going smoothly. I think this would be an excellent resource for the newly-diagnosed celiac patient. My only complaint is that the section on which ingredients are safe and which should be avoided were slightly different from other such lists I have seen and left me wondering (as they often do) which list to trust.
'Can't do without the lists (of additives) in This Book! December 11, 2004 reader (Cape May, NJ) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
(Gluten-Free For A Healthy Life, by Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD, LD) The very best reason to have a copy of this book is that it provides you with pages and pages of the names of the foods and "additives" that a gluten-intolerant person may and may not eat! I've kept mine on the kitchen counter for constant reference during the last several months. Who would put so much wheat gluten in every processed food? Well, they all do! (manufacturers) And, until you figure out that you're just not eating much of anything from a jar, can, bag, or box in the future, this book is helpful in spelling it out. It takes so much time and energy to call each of the manufacturers of your own favorite food products, concerning their gluten-free status, that at some point, even the joy of being a nuisance (to them) wears thin. And, even after calling, you need to question whether the food and drug companies really understand the depth of the problem, concerning contamination from wheat gluten. (They may not.) I just reread the first few chapters of this book, so I could decide if my relatives should read it, too. I realized that it has a very concise, informative overview of the disease. It's a perfect introduction to the underlying causes of suffering and illness from Celiac disease, as well as explaining the need to adhere to a totally gluten-free diet. Therefore, this book may be the easiest way to help family members and friends understand it, too. This is definitely a reference-quality book, that should be included in your quest for Celiac information.

This book contains tips and recipes from the people who are living through this disease. It is a great resource for a newly diagnosed celiac. It is small enough to carry with you, but packed full of great information. Definately purchase this one!
Comprehensive Explanation of Living Your Life Gluten-Free September 27, 2003 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Gluten-Free for a Healthy Life is a comprehensive book that explains the gluten-free lifestlye in terms that are both easy to read and understand. The author uses "experts" (people already living the gluten-free lifestyle) to give tips, tricks, recipes and advice. It is a useful and informative book for both the newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease as well as seasoned veterans. It's compact size makes it convenient to carry in a handbag when you go shopping. I highly recommend this book!
