4 out of 5 stars Good purchase. Takes a little practice to use well.   July 2, 2008

I purchased this for my wife. We had different results. Her tortillas broke apart. I think this is because she was using the recipe in the manual. I found you have to add a small capful of oil and a little more water until the consistency is more moist and doesn't stick to your hands very much.

Take about a half-dollar-sized ball and put in the middle of the iron. The temp should be between medium and high. Lightly press down on the iron. You will hear noise (air escaping the dough). Hold down for 30 seconds, pressing a little harder after 10 seconds. If you press down too hard, the dough will come out of the sides and the tortilla will break apart.

Once you have practiced this a couple times, it works very well. I think the other negative reviews were due to having the Saachi on too low of a temperature setting. It is actually fun after some practice!

The only reason I rated it a 4 instead of a 5 is due to the need to practice and the recipe being incorrect in the directions.

This product is excellent to make rotis. it all depends how you prepare the dough for rotis. if the dough is proper, therotis come out excellently. After making a few trials, then the rotis came out good. Initially, I was also of the opinion that this is a waste product. After using and practicing it for couple of times, it turned good. use the max temp setting.

I bought this to make rotis and am very happy with the purchase. The rotis come out great, and they puff up really well. The first few weeks the rotis used to dry up fast, but after using the roti maker for a couple of weeks, the quality of rotis improved. I usually keep the temperature control in the high position. Probably the lower positions would be useful only to reheat.
